The city of Surrey is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Salish Peoples, including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), and Semiahma (Semiahmoo) land-based nations in what is known now as British Columbia, Canada.
Surrey's history is composed of a series of interwoven themes beginning with the Indigenous people who have lived in the area now known as Surrey for more than 10,000 years, the Spanish and English explorers, and the impact of colonization on the Indigenous people.
