As we work towards moving the legacy site to the new format, the story of resilience and fortitude shown by Surrey’s Zennosuke Inouye. Mr. Inouye volunteered and fought in WW1, and then came home to settle in Surrey’s Strawberry Hill neighbourhood. He raised a family and also cleared land for his farm. When WW2 came to pass, he and his family were forcibly removed when internment of Japanese-Canadian citizens became law. After the war, he successfully fought to have his land returned to him – and was the first in Canada to do so. Read his story here:
